A night at EP & LP in West Hollywood

E.P. & L.P.

If you’ve asked around for rooftop bar recommendations, you’ve undoubtedly heard people talk about E.P. & L.P. This multi-level venue on La Cienega Boulevard opened its doors in 2015, and has had a line down the street on weekends ever since. The Australian-run property offers a modern Mexican restaurant BOMBO downstairs and the a breezy rooftop bar upstairs. They also have an extended patio that’s home to the Melrose Rooftop Theatre during warmer months. You’ll have multiple ways to enjoy the views and LA vibes from this West Hollywood staple.

E.P. & L.P. Details:

🍔 Food:
There’s open seating on the rooftop for a limited menu of bites. The calamari is a solid starter and the waffle fries make for the perfect tipsy snack. They’ve also got heartier options like burgers, sandwiches, and tacos.

🍸 Drinks:
Cocktails at E.P. & L.P. have always been on the pricier side. But they’re normally strong and have creative ingredients. The “Purple Rain” is a standout with hibiscus, lavender and honey. There’s also Froze that’s perfect for hot days. All cocktails can be ordered as a pitcher as well if your group wants to go hard. There’s a hefty selection of wines too.

🎶 Music:
The playlist is usually trendy, upbeat music ranging from pop to indie to hip hop. DJs occasionally come in to bring live mixing to the space.

Ambiance:
It’s one of the biggest rooftops in Los Angeles so you’ll have plenty of space to mix and mingle. It’s known to be a pre-club hot spot (Poppy is a few doors down), so the crowd can notably be a little “LA” at times. They don’t offer reservations on the rooftop, so check in with the host for a table when you arrive. Otherwise, the views are great and the design is cool and coastal. FYI, there’s a dress code so skip the shorts and flip flops after sundown.

📸 Photo Ops:
Head to the far end of the rooftop towards the bathrooms to take a pic with their “Where Love Lives” neon sign.

🎬 Melrose Rooftop Theatre:
This summer movie experience is also held on the other end of the property. The rooftop space is transformed into an outdoor theater with bean bag chairs, a concession stand, and a screen in front of the sunset backdrop. Each guest gets a pair of headphones for a “silent” style screening, and concessions can be ordered by phone through QR code.

The innovative experience is great with a buddy, but not super group-friendly due to the headphones limiting your interaction. Nevertheless, it’s a worthy ticket with a range of classic movies and genres to choose from. You can also pair the experience with BOMBO downstairs for a true Dinner & A Movie night out.

😃 Happy Hour:
The Mon-Fri happy hour offers drinks $12 or less and similarly priced bites from 4pm-6pm.
