If you’re a traveler who appreciates a boutique hotel in the middle of the action, Hotel Erwin is the place for you! It sits smack dab in the middle of Venice’s most bustling block, just off of Winward Avenue (where the Venice sign famously hangs overhead). The beachside hotel has a rooftop bar, onsite restaurant, and of course, beautiful rooms overlooking the ocean. Wake up to the waves and spend the day walking the Venice Beach boardwalk. By night, dive into the Westside’s biggest bar scene just steps away from your hotel room. It’s incredibly easy to immerse yourself in the beachy, Venice lifestyle when you book your stay at Hotel Erwin.
Hotel Erwin Details:
They’ve got three places to eat onsite. Erwin’s General is the downstairs café that offers coffee and brunch-style options. Highly recommend the Fully Loaded Bagel to revive you after a night out. Venice Way Pizza is a takeout style spot with pizza by the slice. High Rooftop is the crown jewel, offering a beautiful panoramic view of the Pacific. The ceviche is a great starter with classics like tacos, wings and fries to munch on while taking in the view.
You can find a full list of signature cocktails at the rooftop lounge. Their “Purple Rain” is great for gin lovers. The “Sunset Sour” made with blood orange puree and vodka is an essential for a drink to match the scenery. You can also get cocktails and mimosas at the café if you’re in need of an AM pick-me-up.
At High Rooftop you’ll hear casual, laidback music ranging from dancey to tropical. Nothing too loud so the spot is great for group conversation.
Hotel Erwin’s rooms have bright, eye-catching artwork with furnishings ready for you to sink into. The Ocean View rooms are of course those with the best sights right outside your window. The Epic View shows off the sprawling Westside, Partial Ocean View gives you a bit of both, and the City View offers well, views of the city!
Hotel Erwin gives off a trendy vibe by combining surf culture with mid-century modern design. Most guests seem to be in their 20s & 30s with some older tourists sprinkled in as well. Staff is extra friendly and even offer a welcome drink upon check-in. You’ll definitely want to wander the neighborhood as well. Hotel guests get discounts and freebies if you show your room key to a selection of local businesses. 😉
High Rooftop’s U-shaped layout may seem a bit awkward, but it lends itself well to coming in with friends for a table. You’ll absolutely want to make a reservation beforehand to ensure a spot to sit. The “VIP Ocean Front” view offers prime real estate (though there’s a pretty hefty fee on weekends). The rooftop space closes pretty early compared to its neighbors on Windward. This makes it a great place to start your evening with cocktails and a sunset before going out.
📸 Photo Ops:
The rooftop bar is undeniably the best place to take a photo. The view goes on for miles creating a quintessential California backdrop.
😃 Happy Hour:
High Rooftop has happy hour Monday-Friday from 1-4pm. You can grub on their discounted cocktails, wine, beer, and snacks.
