If house parties are your vibe, The Victorian in Santa Monica is the place for you. This historic, multi-level venue stands out as an inviting home plopped in the middle of Main Street. It’s a dinner and weekend brunch restaurant by day, but turns into a raging hot spot by night. You’ll find a different experience on every level. The underground Basement Tavern nightclub, main floor lounge areas, and upper level Birdcage dancefloor each offer something new. There’s also an outdoor patio and balcony space to take in the Westside breeze. If you’re searching for a place to meet new people, hear some live DJs, and get a taste of Santa Monica’s nightlife scene, look no further than The Victorian.
The Victorian Details:
They open at 5pm for dinner on weekdays and 2pm for brunch on weekends. The menu has coastal classics like Fish Tacos and Lobster Pasta, or you can try their salads and pizzas. Brunch offerings include bites like Chicken Wings or a Breakfast Burrito, and the Asada Fries are an absolute neccessity.
On their cocktail menu the “Miss Gindependent” made with Hendricks and honey lemonade is a standout for gin lovers. There’s also the “Tequila Mockingbird” cucumber-mint margarita for those who need a refreshing buzz. The “Vanilla Espresso Martini” and “Sorry Not Sorry” are also notable standouts. There’s a selection of beer and pretty expansive wine menu too. They also get points for putting tops on their cups during busy nights–no worrying about spills or roofies.
You’ll find a live DJ on every level Friday and Saturday nights playing mostly Top 40, hip hop, and EDM. There’s plenty of space to dance but dancefloors do get packed. Be ready to rub shoulders with strangers. Also come by on Thursdays for Salsa Night with free salsa and bachata lessons–pretty hard to come by on the Westside.
Walking into a night at The Victorian will definitely make you feel like you’re at a frat party, but not necessarily in a bad way. The recently remodeled design is clean and inviting and there are plenty of nooks to settle into to catch up with friends. The crowd is very “Westside” and the guy-to-girl ratio skews mostly dudes. On busier nights you’ll need to wait in line to go back and forth between levels, especially the underground nightclub. Also, beware of the bathroom line (it’s an upside-down world where the line gets longer for men than women, but both are bad). The patio-centric brunch is more laid back and is an ideal day drinking spot to kickoff a weekend outing.
📸 Photo Ops:
Nothing in particular stands out, but the patio during the daytime offers up some good sunlight for an ideal Sunday Funday brunch shot.
