A vintage, tropical escape. Known to be Los Angeles’ oldest tiki bar, the island vibes are unmatched at this cozy spot in North Hollywood. Since opening in 1958, Tonga Hut has been featured in a ton of movies and TV shows thanks to its quintessential Hawaiian style (Ingrid Goes West anyone?). You’ll find bamboo walls, tiki figurines, and cocktail umbrella art making this place a feast for your eyes. The robust menu of classic tiki drinks and house specialties will not disappoint. It’s a neighborhood watering hole great for an intimate date night by the fireplace or catching up with a few friends in a booth. Your trek to the Valley will be well worth it to experience a piece of LA nightlife history.

Tonga Hut Details:
No food inside, but Durangos Tacos shows up Wednesday-Sunday to serve up Mexican street food in the parking lot.
Where do we start? You can’t go wrong with classics like the Mai Tai or Dark & Stormy, or splurge on a Zombie if it’s that kinda night. The VooDoo Juice is also a solid specialty for coconut fans. Lots of cheap beer options too. But heads up on ordering, you’ll need to get in line at the bar–bartenders are particular about the ordering process.
Lots of easy, breezy, vintage tiki jams to set the island vacation mood.
The crowd is mostly 30s+ and super friendly. The atmosphere gives you a refreshing escape from LA glamour. Take some time to investigate the details of the space because there’s always something new to catch your eye. Tonga Hut has major neighborhood bar vibes in all the best ways possible.
📸 Photo Ops:
The drinks are the star here, and the Scorpion Bowl is your best bet for a photo op. The flaming shot will add a zing of fire to your feed. The entire kitschy space is photoworthy thanks to their Disneyland-esque attention to detail.
